Società Navigazione Siciliana, the Liberty Lines and Caronte & Tourist joint venture holding the state contract for Sicily's minor islands, restored an 18% fare increase in early September. Federalberghi Isole di Sicilia and a coalition of 75 island organisations protested, saying cumulative rises since 2022 reached 84%, and called on the regional government to block the increases and restore cut services.
